STEREO’s research program centers on the development of new synthetic methodology and strategies and their application to the total synthesis of complex biologically important natural products.
STEREO’s activities can be conveniently divided into the following groups:
- discovery, design and development of new synthetic methods, reagents and building blocks with particular interest in asymmetric reactions,
- creating the proper sequence of reactions (cascade, domino reactions…) to make complex targets readily available from simple starting materials.
In order to reach this different goals we use our know-how in the field of metal mediated catalysis, organocatalysis, dynamic resolution and computational methods to invistigate organic reactivity. In doing so, attention must be paid to the question of atom economy to minimize waste and energy.
From these new synthetic tools evolve new synthetic strategies towards complex natural products (targets include terpenoids, alkaloids, nucleosides, carbohydrates, and macrolides) and also biological application
